Aloha! I’m Jacy (aka Sparkz), and I love music, photography, and traveling. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Kauai in Hawaii and currently reside on the island of Oahu. In 2000, I took my first trip abroad to Tahiti and I was hooked.
After that trip I made it a point to leave the country at least once a year (with the exception of 2010 when I graduated from law school and couldn’t find a job). On good years, I visit multiple countries. I’ve so far traveled to 30 countries, but have a long list of places I’m still dying to go.
Some of my favorites so far have been feeding llamas at Machu Picchu in Peru, ice climbing in Iceland, snuggling an ocelot in Costa Rica, the Hidden Beach Cave in Mexico, the Blue Lagoon in Malta, Plitvice Lakes in Croatia, and visiting the Holocaust sites in Auschwitz & Birkenau.
I also love traveling in the states and here in Hawaii. I’ve been to 7 of the 8 major Hawaiian Islands, and I never grow tired of trips to the neighbor islands.
I got my first camera when I was 12 years old. It was my dad’s old camera that he gave me to play with, it used 110 film, and looked like this. I’ve been through many, many cameras in my lifetime, and am currently shooting primarily with a Nikon D7000, Panasonic Lumix LX5, GoPro Hero 4, and my iPhone 6.
Music became a passion of mine probably before photography. I would make mixed tapes by recording songs off the radio long before CDs, MP3s and streaming music. I’ve been to a million concerts and in 2009 attended Lollapalooza, my first ever music festival. I’ve since tried to make music festivals an annual thing as well, and have traveled as far as Montreal, Canada to attend one.
